Proving ground for the automobile, the Indianapolis Speedway race has encouraged the development of faster, safer cars.

Proving ground for aircraft, the Thompson Trophy Race is already having the same effect on airplanes.

In the past four years the top speed of winning ships has increased more than 100 miles per hour; qualifying speed has been raised from 175 to 225 m. p. h.; and a plane developed expressly for this race set a new world's land plane record.

It is fitting that this great annual event should be sponsored by the leading manufacturer of aircraft valves, Thompson Products, Inc., whose engineers have aided so much in the improvement of the modern automobile and airplane engine.
