NATIONAL AERONAUTIC ASSOCIATION
RACING AUTHORITY FOR THE NATION [BOLD]

THOSE who attend the National Air Races will observe the following printed in all announcements, "Sanctioned by the National Aeronautic Association," and "Held under the rules of the Federation Aeronautique Internationale." This is an expression of the policy of the Air Race Management to conduct competitive events with the utmost fairness and high regard for the safety of flyers, attendants and the public.
The National Aeronautic Association is the sporting and record authority for the United States. It is a member of the Federal Aeronautique Internationale and representing the United States was a charter member of this international group formed in 1905. Today 37 of the leading national of the world compose the federation.

From the composite thought and experience of high aviation authorities in these 37 nations, the rules and regulations governing races have been evolved. These rules are the result of a quarter century of experiences and are the effective fulfillment of four fundamentals:
  (1) insuring an equal opportunity to every competitor by requiring that each trial for a particular record be conducted under, as nearly as possible, the same conditions; (2) Insuring supervision and observation of each record attempt by competent, unbiased, reputable persons; (3) Obtaining a scientifically accurate record of each flight by the use of tested registered instruments; and (4) Guarding against unscrupulous practice by licensing each competitor and disqualifying any found guilty.
[COLUMN THREE]
Thus it is required that all attempts to establish "official" records be conducted in accoradance with a standard procedure outlined by F.A.I. rules and be made under the supervision and observation of qualified officials. Only instruments for recording the flight can be used which have met established accuracy standards and are properly registered. To enable action against individuals found guilty of fraudulent action or unscrupulous conduct, each competitor is issued a sporting license. This license indicated his good standing and eligibility to attempt and hold "official" records and to participate in sanctioned aeronautic competitions. The licenses of individuals not in good standing or who have been found guilty of sharp practice are either suspended or revoked. In this case the

pilot cannot attempt the establishment of "official" records or participate in races or competitions that have been sanctioned by the National Aeronautic Association.
Besides its high responsibilities as the racing authority for the nation, the N.A.A. is chiefly concerned in the extension of facilities for aeronautical education and information. Its officials and representatives may be found in every important city in the country.
As an educational group it is no commercial interest or affiliations whatever and is aggressively engaged in the task of advancing aeronautics in all of its phases. It invited public interest and participation in its nationwide educational program. The headquarters of the N.A.A. are located at Dupont Circle, Washington, D.C.

At the air races you will see clipped-wing racers, huge transports, and all sorts of military airplanes. Each type is designed to efficiently serve its purpose.

We wish to call your attention to the growing use of Beechcrafts for ambulance work. They offer facilities of comfort and speed that can swing the balance in favor of life, in critical life-or-death cases.

A large number of Beechcrafts have been especially built as ambulances because they combine the highest cruising speeds with a unique ability to land in almost any small field, due to their exceptionally low landing speed. A good many have been shipped abroad for use by foreign military organizations.

We invited requests for information about Beechcraft Ambulances.

NATIONAL AIR RACES FLYING MODEL CONTEST [BOLD]

Birth of the nation-wide Scripps-Howard Junior Aviator organization resulted from the success of the 1934 National Air Races Flying Model Contest.

Maj. Al Williams, famous flyer, head the movement as National Commander, with Ed Clarke as National Director.
The Scripps-Howard Junior National Air Races, staged annually to select the national champion model flyers, are held the hour days preceding the National Air Races. Boys and girls from practically every state in the union, Canada, and many other foreign countries, race their ships in this youthful classic. Every type of model is eligible and the winning pilots are awarded the $5000 in trophies, air trips and cash prizes offered by leading aviation concerns.
The opening day of the National Air Races is designated each year as "Junior Aviator Day." On this day the champion model flyers are honored with the award of their prizes before the huge air race stands in the presence of the opening day's crowd and the race performers.
In many cities "Aviation Days" are being sponsored by Junior Aviator to promote interest in aviation. A total of over 600,000 people witnessed these shows this year.
The movement is educational and has the approval of the schools and other civic organizations on its well-rounded program. In many cities N.A.A. Chapters, are aiding with the work.
