1. The Bendix Race Trophy, shown above, has been awarded since 1931 by the Bendix Aviation Corporation for the fastest cross-country flight in the competition. 

2. General James H. Doolittle shown in the Laird plane in which, as a Major, he won the first Bendix Trophy race from Los Angeles to Cleveland in 1931. 

3. Roscoe Turner, colorful racing pilot of earlier days, shown climbing from the Wedell-Williams plane in which he flew to victory in the Bendix Trophy race of 1933. 

4. Jacqueline Cochran, still in her plane, is congratulated by Malcolm P. Ferguson, Bendix Aviation Corporation president, after she beat out male pilots to win the 1938 Bendix trophy speed flight from Los Angeles to Cleveland.
