Air Force SET NEW BENDIX RECORD
Douglas Edwards at 7:15 P.M. over WCBS_TV (N.Y.) & CBS_TV Network:
THE SCREEN SHOWED DOUGLAS EDWARDS SEATED AT HIS DESK READING THE NEWS. BEHIND HIM ON THE WALL WAS A STILL PHOTO OF A PLANE IN FLIGHT.
"And in Oklahoma City, the Navy announced today at the National Aircraft Show that a new air speed record has been set by a Chance Vought F8U Crusader jet. Commander R.W. Windsor flew the plane just over 1,015 miles an hour over the California desert on August 21st. That's more than one and one-half times the speed of sound and 299 miles faster than the old record. That was announced today.
"The Air Force of the United States also set some new records over the weekend, Bendix for one. We were there in Oklahoma City and saw a brilliant show from the Air Force and the others. We have some tremendously fine new planes in our arsenal."
