Col. Carlos M. Talbott, a 450th Fighter-Day Wing pilot, was winner of last year's Bendix classic. He averaged 610.726 mph when he zipped across the continent in a North American F-100C Super Sabre from George AFB to Philadelphia International Airport. The Bendix record was set in 1954 by Capt. Edward W. Kenny of the Air Training Command at an average speed of 616.208 in a Republic F-84F Thunderstreak. He flew from Edwards AFB, Calif. to Cox Municipal Airport, Dayton, O.

This year the course will be from George AFB to Will Rogers Field on the outskirts of Oklahoma City. The pilots will fly F-100C Super Sabres.

Aviation experts predict that a new Bendix speed record in the supersonic range will be established this year. For the first time in the history of the event, pilots will be permitted to use the technique of aerial refueling.
