| June 12. 0 | Smith - Anderson | May 10th 67. States that he hired a Cold. boy in 1866. to work for the year, in consideration receiving one third of the Tobacco. that was made. The boy was imprisoned on a charge of larceny, and was bailed out by Agt. Bur. R. F and A. L. The boy giving said Agt. Two hundred pounds of his best tobacco, and fifty pounds more for writing Deed of Trust.
The boy was tried, convicted, whipped and imprisoned again for costs, One Jno. Moore then agrees to pay the cost, and take him out of prison, provided he would make him a Bill of Sale for his Third of the Tobacco. This was done and Moore induces the boy to remove to Tennessee, under a fictitious order of court. The Freedman's Agt is contending for his 250 lb of Tobacco, while Moore claims the entire interest, and threatens suit for it, having made & finished the crop himself, the boy having worked only 4 months and 5 days, and that at a time when not much could be done, and crop not fairly commenced, desires that his claim should have priority as to payment, and wishes advice in the premises | Lt.
