But, uh, I'm going to ask that he come, that he'll come up to and tell you some of his experiences,

because he was there when I got there. He'd already been there 12 days

and I was there 5 and he was there 17 days. And Bender, Mr. Bender, who was there 19 days, could tell you a little something what happened.

I was picked up one Wednesday afternoon in front of Carter's Drugstore picking.

So, I picked it about five, I picked about five minutes,

And I should have jumped fly. He came around and arrest me.

They take me around the courthouse, and they you know, talking about roughing me around.

So, because uh they started calling me a whole lot of hard names like "Nigga" and all that kinda stuff so.

I start saying "No" and "Yes" to them, you know

Because they asked me do I know how to say "yes, sir" and "no, sir"

I told them, "no." So and uh

He asked me when I got home.

He asked me how long I've been in Selma. I told them I been home about a week. He asked me why did I come?

I said er don't I have a right to live in Alabama?

He told me said you open you mouth again, I'm gon' knock your teeth out.

Then I said you know, one sentence so he sound on me a couple of times.
