Tether, you're under arrest, unlawful assembly they say. Took em all to jail. Say hello to the crowd of his white cheerleaders saying "Go big Jim, go big Jim!"

[00:00:12]
[[Applause and laughter]]
"Go big Jim!"

[00:00:22]
So

[00:00:27]
So then, then you see there was one, one fella standin' on the other side with a sign so they yell em' "Big Jim you forgot one, Jim" [[applause]] oh big Jim turned red and ran on over there,

[00:00:41]
{SPEAKER name="Jim Clark"}
"Ok, you're under arrest unlawful assembly."

[00:00:45]
So he thought he had things all under control so they closed the people were magnificent, all those, we should, all of those who were not there ought to just take a few minutes and really give, say a freedom cheer for those old people who stood down there in the blistering hot sun, all day, without water. So let's give em' a cheer

[00:01:07]
[[applause]]

[00:01:18]
So they close the courthouse, you know for about a hour and a half to two hours. So people came back, Mrs.Boyington, some of the other people had gone and obtained food for the people, had a grand big A&B supermarket cash basket full of food, and a keg of water. Now somehow the people had been told that if they leave the line that they would lose their position, now that's the first lie we wanna straighten out tonight. You have a right to get out the line any time you want to, and come back in that line. Say cause you down there to register to vote, those registrars go to the restroom and drink water, and certainly a person trynna register ought to have that right.

[00:02:01]
[[applause]]

[00:02:07]
So don't you let anybody tell you anymore that you don't have a right to leave that line, but the people were stickin, you know we been believin' the white man so long, it's so hard for us to break away [[laughter]] but we breakin because we were down there to register to vote. But anyway, uh, we thought it was all over so Mrs.Boyington our guest speaker, another one of our visitors, couple of reporters went over to see Jim Clarke and said "We understand that, uh, you're not letting us talk to the people you know, because we have a federal right to go and talk to anybody on the registration line especially when we're gazin' the process of registering to vote, so we told Clarke said "Now we have a federal right to see these people, they're hungry, and we want to talk to them about registration matters, and we want to talk to them. So he says

{SPEAKER name="Jim Clark"}
"Your federal rights be dam*ed, I'm the sheriff of this county, now go get your federal rights." [[screaming]]

[00:03:04]
That's right that's what he said. Said "Well all we wanna do is, uh talk to the people."

[00:03:10]
{SPEAKER name="Jim Clark"}
"You not gon' molest them."

[00:03:11]
So we said "Is talking to em' molesting them"

[00:03:14]
{SPEAKER name="Jim Clark"}
"You not gon' molest them, yes talking to them is molesting them."

[00:03:18]
So we, uh you know himmed and harred with him a lil' bit. Then we walked across the street, and one of the young men that was in that crowd was a fella named Chico Neblin, of Carven Neblin, whom you haven't seen around here too much cause he just came in from Mississippi. So he was pretty upset, and we all were upset so we wanted to assert what was our right. So Avery Williams, whom a lot of you know you've seen him at the mass, me and Chico decided to take their clipboards, and their registration blank and go over and talk to the people and they had some food. One young man grabbed a whole paper, uh, shopping bag full so we thought baby buddy you better not take all that food because you're gon' get arrested and there's no point in feeding those deputies down there. So they only took a lil' food, but anyway we went over there, and I'm not sure what went on in the conversation but it was really tragic hearing that about by that time you see 11 cars, of state troopers had come to the city, they were all standin' around and they had almost like a rainbow with these colored hats, the state troopers had blue hats, the posse had yellow hats, the sheriff had a green hat [[laughter]] and I don't know what they all mean, you know really, I really don't. But anyway all of these state troopers and some of the posse started jumpin' on Chico Neblin and Avery Williams, and they were down on the ground, and I don't know if they used the cattle plodder or not, but I understand that something like the cattle plodder was used on them. And they were stomped in the stomach, and this was completely unnecessary, completely unnecessary, absolutely unnecessary.
