I am sorry that Alice is not feeling well. She depended on her mother all her life, so I suppose misses her terribly.

Jim Capen does well to get about as he does in his condition, I should say. Did Mr. Holmes enjoy his visit? Does Talbot come up now?

I hope that Mr. Holmes gets out doors these fine days. It would be fine if he would get interested in the little house again. Can't you tell him that he would be just as much by himself out there as upstairs? Perhaps that would turn him against wanting to go out, though.

I should think the griddle cakes would be good. Have you any maple syrup to use on them?

Now I will go up town with this. It is beautiful out.
