terribly warm. Even I was uncomfortable from the last, and, you know, that is saying a good deal. Usually I go down to see about it when it gets up too much, but I thought I  right not to complain of too much heat this weather, so she had to build the fire again. I was sorry. She works too hard anyway, and then fuel is too costly to waste.

I had another bad sick spell a week ago and was in bed several days, with one of those pounding headaches. I vomited what appeared to be a lot of bile and in due season felt better again. I am living on milk, orange juice, tomato strained, etc. To-day I began picking up my old papers and straightening out somewhat so I guess that is a sign I am getting well enough to begin working again. Dear Mrs. Holmes,

For once I am beginning my letter to you before the last minute. I have just come in from a short walk and thought if I got my letter written to you I could go out again and mail it.

Tomorrow is Candlemas day, but winter will not be half gone for a few days yet in spite of the old saying, "Candlemas day, Candlemas day; half of you corn and half of your hay." As I reckon it, it would be half over until about Tues-
