{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"} This is somewhat a star-studded program from here on to end, ladies and gentlemen.

[00:11:27]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"} Because as we look all over this audience, we look into the faces of people who have made and are making their contributions for the cause of freedom.

[00:11:40]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"} It's my privilege, at this time, to bring before you for expressions and to have you greet and him greet you, my boss Charles Evers.

[00:11:50]
[[applause]]

[00:12:04]
{SPEAKER name="Charles Evers"} Yea though we walk through the valley of the shadows of death, we fear no evil, for God is with us; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort us. Surely goodness and mercy'll follow us all the days of our lives.

[00:12:17]
{SPEAKER name="Charles Evers"} I would like to be able to say much more to you, but I -- somehow now that I'm trying to, I come down with laryngitis and this plain old sore throat, so I'll make sure I'm short and to the point.

[00:12:28]
{SPEAKER name="Charles Evers"} It is indeed a pleasure to come back to Hattiesburg: the home of the newly elected, I stood in the door for you, governor.

[00:12:37]
[[laughter]]

[00:12:43]
{SPEAKER name="Charles Evers"} I would just like to let the good governor know that we are in his hometown tonight fighting for the same thing that he has been fighting to deprive us of, all these years he has been in public office:

[00:12:58]
{SPEAKER name="Charles Evers"} the right to get our hand on that ballot and the right to vote for racists, bigoters, and hatred-hearted people like him out of office, and put him back in the place where he belongs.

[00:13:12]
{SPEAKER name="Charles Evers"} And to be able to elect people who represent all the people, not just the negro or just the white people of Mississippi.

[00:13:19]
{SPEAKER name="Charles Evers"} And make it a better place for all of us to live. That's why we are here.

[00:13:25]
{SPEAKER name="Charles Evers"} I also would like to tell Hattiesburg to tell the white population who have so long thought the negroes were afraid: there's a new negro now.

[00:13:35]
{SPEAKER name="Charles Evers"} We have no fear --
[[applause]]

[00:13:46]
{SPEAKER name="Charles Evers"} The reason why we have no fear is because we know God is on our side.
