I make the [[?]] for your consideration - I think it a favorable point for a school & that our will be kept up by the Col. (who is from the North & a permanent settler) & that it can be opened by May 1st The work can not be done at once by the people, as they are busy with their crops, but the Col promises to begin on it within a month-

There is no build'g material on the Island, or I would [[make?]] a log house. There is considerable interest among the people on the subject, & some jealousy, of the Frederika & Postell schools - which will serve to keep them up to the work. in the principle of competition.

I go to Elliotts Bluff tomorrow night, if well enough- (Have been quite unwell for 2 weeks, & my trip to St. S. brought on a trouble with my wound which I tho't would prove serious - Am feeling better to-day.) I write this under the "personal", because I do not feel able to re-write it in the L.B. nor to brief it. If [[strikethrough]] there is [[/strikethrough]] any thing can be done for St. S. please send me word as early as possible, for if lumber is to be purchased, the bill should be given to the Mills, as early as may be, in order to have a portion of the material seasoning - we shall have to take it from the saw - With kind regards to Mrs. L. & best wishes for yourself- I remain very respectfully
