A letter to day from L. who is now in Philadelphia. Writing as usual. In the afternoon went to Mr. Phillips How his Grand prophet face lighted up when I inadvertently said I had succeeded! And how generously he offered to hear me read my Ms. though it would take up his time. He gave me an invitation for the Anti Slavery Festival, and gave me Emmerson to read. How it cheers me to spend an hour with such a masterpiece of humanity it reconciles me to Americans.

Writing with renewed zeal today. On yesterday I went to hear Mrs. Ruffin read I do not think time has made much improvement with her reading Sheridans Ride was given well. Miss Leslie sang very sweetly I did not care for the rest of the affair.
