1868 Friday, April 3. Went to church, after to Mrs Hayden's read to Mr H. Garrison's letter against Mr Phillips I am sorry for it. In afternoon I read, and Evening went to the Dancing School and mirabile dictu I actually danced even waltzed with Mr Robt Howard! He escorted me home and played the gallant to perfection. If I intended waltzing through life I might fancy him for a partner. 1868 Saturday, April 4. Started for church this morning but stopping at Mr J B Smith to ask him about the Memorial Biography of Col Shaw I was detained in conversation until after the hour. I received a letter today for Miss Lyons of Providence RI and one for the Association. Miss [[Furter?]] informed me that the Association will not send any teachers as I cannot go. Went to [[?]] They are both very kind to me Received a very disheartening letter from home Ma has the dropsy God have mercy on her
