At home sewing until 12 oclock then to the State House and wrote until four oclock, then to Mr Phillips could not see him as he was attending Mrs Rockwell in her sick chamber where she has been for three weeks.

Went to Addie Howard's spent the afternoon with her did not get home until 8 o'clock Addie received today two Photographs of Edmonia Lewis from Rome taken in her Studio dress. Home and sewed like a Trojan until 12 o clock

Went out with my new suit in Chelsea, after to Haydens there I met Mr Boling Mr Lenox went there for me to go to Mr. Nells Brown's lecture at Tremont Temple on the origin of the African Race I don't think he proved anything particularly but generally it was a good instructive historical lecture. Mr. Phillips introductory was graceful, logical and grandly eloquent as usual. He seemed nervous and fatigued he left early as he had to prepare for New York. Mr. Seargant took his place
