Mrs. Pettengill can't stand Mr. Porter.  The other night he blocked her way in the aisle, so she had to speak to him, but he as usual had to say to her, "As handsome as ever".  At that she passed him by without a further word or look.  Her disgusted comment is "poor fool."  She also told Mrs. Bellows, wife of one of the committee members, not to get like Mr. Porter, when she complimented her on an old dress.  Mrs. Bellows wanted to know what she meant and Mrs. P. let out and told her that Porter was insulting, etc.

I was sorry to hear about the cold you had.  I hope that neither of you get more.  I can't seem to get

rid of mine.  I have hung on at school, although one of the men has been out this week.  I was in hopes to get out this week end, but I was asked to chaperon a school party Saturday night so will stay here.  I hope I can get out next week, though, if everything goes well.  I went out to Jimmie's last Saturday, the first time since Christmas.  I stayed all night, so she got a chance to go out to Wellesley to a college play, Estelle Tripp had invited her to attend.  

Hauchie got home about 9 or 9:30.  We were talking when Ruth started to fuss.  Nothing but back rubbing would appease her, but I got tired of that, so she fussed some more.  Hauchie
