This after-noon I had my first meeting of the sewing club. Two girls appeared with work and four without and talk was general- for the most part on a Halloween party that is coming off but for a while drifted to high school work and marks; some deciding not to work next month since they did this and didn't get good marks. Ms. Bates was blessed to the satisfaction of all I guess, until at last I felt honor bound to bring the subject back to dress costumes for the party. 

I am in somewhat of a mess as I seem for the most part to be. You remember that I told you my boarding lady asked for information about things last Friday night and that I told her what I thought. Night before last I said I would like scrambled eggs if I might have them and immediately the storms burst. She talked for 15 or 20 min. saying nothing complimentary during all that time. I said nary a word and have been worried ever since, but if she had not been sampling the contents of the cellar I am no judge. To-night I heard incidentally that Saturday some teachers said if one teacher kept on (or something to the effect) they might be out of a place, so I am wondering
