This contract made this 7th day of August 1865 between Taylor & Myers of Handsboro' Harrison County Mississippi and Henry Gant, Freedman witnesseth: Said Taylor & Myers have this day hired said Gant to work from the date of this contract to the 1st day of January next in their steam saw mill at Handsboro' at ($20) Twenty dollars per month & board, a proportionate deduction to be made for any lost time, and a forfeiture of all wages due if said Gant for any cause not considered good in the judgement of Capt. J.H. Matthews should leave his Employers before the expiration of the present year. Said Taylor & Myers agree to pay said Gant half the amt. due on the 1st day of October next, & the residual on the 1st day of January next. 
In witness whereof said parties have hereunto set their hands and seals the day & year above written in duplicate.
