IN TOUCH...with fashion
by Diana D. H. Lyons

On the constantly revolving carousel of high fashion boutiques, there are brass rings a-plenty. But as any merry-go-round maven will tell you, catching the occasional gold rings (in this case boutiques that combine quality, workmanship and distinct packaging) — well, that's something else again.

ROBERTA DI CAMERINO

International movers and shakers have long known about the glories of "Roberta" handbags because they've been buying the cut-velvet beauties in Venice for the past 30 years. When Giuliana di Camerino (the business is named after her daughter, Roberta) branched out into ready-to-wear seven years ago, the move merely added another bauble to Signora's already-impressive professional charm bracelet. Her smashing trompe l'oeil prints have become as vital to the lifestyles of the fashion cognoscenti as a good supply of vitamin pills and they, along with a complete selection of di Camerino triumphs, can now be found in no less luxe a nesting place than the new Olympic Tower building at 645 Fifth Avenue.

Against a background of horticultural bedazzlement you will find skirts, blouses, dresses, both long and short (these, priced from $150), scarves, luggage and umbrellas that stand a good chance of edging out the ubiquitous "G's", "V's", and "D's" of today's chicarinos.

Case in point—parchment tote bags (an option to summer straws?) are big, beautiful, glossy, and treated to withstand the rigors of weather. Printed with whimsical fool-the-eye straps, tags and buckles, they come in many colors—among them, acid green and shocking pink. Prices for these conversation pieces begin at $48, and you can place bets on this item for the season's newest symbol of ultimo status.

In just a few months, the di Camerino shop has carved a stunning niche for itself on one of the city's slickest Avenues. It's a "must-see" for those who would savor the polished perfection of a fine European hand.

CORINNE TRAVIS OF ROSE LASH INTL.

Generating a powerhouse of off-the-rack excitement is the Corinne Travis division of Rose Lash International at 58 East 55 Street. The ebullient Ms. Travis, flashing-eyed and fashion-foxy, designs all the goodies in this friendly boutique—and in limited quantities only, so you know you won't see yourself coming and going.

Corinne has come up with an irresistible idea for those who absolutely insist upon a put-together look but have neither the time nor the patience for rooting around in big department stores.

Fashion-in-a-box is the name of the game, and the possibilities are deliciously infinite. A typical $90 box, for example, would contain superbly cut French pants in neutral, paired with a turquoise and neutral striped tee shirt from Monaco (and you know how THEY are cut!). The signature belt—hemp with a tortoise shell butterfly
