WHO'S WHO IN THE CAST

JAMES B. FREYDBERG (Producer) last season co-produced Tony Award-winning playwright Hugh Leonard's critically acclaimed play A Life on Broadway which was nominated for four Tony Awards, including Best Play. He served as Producing Managing Director of the Philadelphia Drama Guild for five years. He was the National Producer of the highly acclaimed Maltby-Shire musical review Starting Here, Starting Now which has been seen in almost every major U.S. city as well as abroad. He was the producer of the hit comedy Asparagus Valley which ran in San Francisco for two and a half years and recently closed after 965 performances. Prior to producing, Mr. Freydberg was a senior officer of Schroders Incorporated and was a Senior Vice President of Drexel, Harriman, Ripley, Inc. Mr. Freydberg's family has been involved with theatrical productions for three generations.

DASHA EPSTEIN (Producer) is the recipient of two Tony Awards as producer for Ain't Misbehavin' (1978) and Children of a Lesser God (1980). She began in the theater after graduating from Barnard as production assistant to Jule Styne, Lillian Hellman and Lester OSterman and worked on such Broadway fare as Mr. Wonderful, Toys in the Attic and Miss Lonelyhearts. After taking time out to raise a family, she returned to the theatre as co-producer of Same Time, Next Year; Something's Afoot; Hal Holbrook's Mark Twain Tonight!; Devour The Snow; Last Licks; Ain't Misbehavin'; and Children of a Lesser God. Dasha currently serves on the board of the American Theatre Wing and the Actors Studio.

EMANUAL AZENBErG (Producer) has presented the following Broadway productions: James Goldman's The Lion in Winter, Hal Holbrook's Mark Twain Tonight!, Peter Weiss's The Investigation, Carl Reiner's Something Different, Melvin Van Peeble's Ain't Supposed To Die A Natural Death, Ronald Ribman's The Poison Tree, Abe Polsky's Devour the Snow, Frank D. Gilroy's Last Licks, SCapino, Brian Clark's Whise Life Is It Anyway?, Tom Friffin's Einstein and the Polar Bear, Ain't Misbehavin', Jules Feiffer's Grown Ups, Tom Kempinski's Duet for One and Mark Medoff's 1980 Tony Award-winning play Children of a Lesser God. He has produced all of Neil Simon's plays since The Sunshine Boys, including The Good Doctor, God's Favorite, California Suite, Chapter Two, I Ought To Be In Pictures, Fools, They're Playing Our Song and Little Me. Mr. Azenberg is currently represented on Broadway by Mark Medoff's 1980 Tony Award-winning play Children of a Lesser God at the Longacre Theatre.

DAVID GEFFEN (Producer) began his career in 1964 in the mail room of the Wm. Morris talent agency and by 1968 he and Elliot Roberts had formed Geffen-Roberts Management which soon numbered Laura Nyro; Joni Mitchell; Crosby, Stills and Nash; Neil Young and Jackson Browne as clients. Mr. Geffen later merged his own label Asylum Records with Elektra to form the legendary Elektra/Asylum label which starred Joni Mitchell, The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, Queen, Carly Simon and Bob Dylan among others. As Vice-Chairman of Warner Bros. Pictures he was responsible for the successful films Oh God, The Late Show and Greased Lightning. Today Geffen Records Label features John Lennon/Yoko Ono, Donna Summer, Elton John, Peter Gabriel, Sammy Hagar, Quarterflash, Jennifer Holliday and Asia. Mr. Geffen has produced his first film, Personal Best, and the smash hit musical Dreamgirls was his debut as a Broadway producer. In addition Mr. Geffen has taught at UCLA and Yale, and in 1980 Governor Brown appointed him to the Board of Regents of the University of California.

tre, has pursued a varied career in the theatre. He has acted and directed on Broadway, Off-Broadway, on television and radio, and for records. Among his directing credits are A Raisin in the Sun and Paul Robeson on Broadway; Uncle Vanya, Hedda Gabler, Timon of Athens, and Johnny Bull at the Yale Re[; Segment 6 of "Roots: The Next Generations" and "Bill Moyer's Journal: No Easy Walk to Freedom" for television. He had just finished directing "Medal of Honor Rag" by Tom Cole which was presented on April 6th as a part of PBS's new drama series, "American Playhouse." Mr. Richards is now in his thirteenth year as Artist Director of the National Playwrights Conferences of the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center in Waterford, Connecticut. He has completed his third year as President of the Theatre Development Fund in New York City, the organization responsible for many projects. He recently resigned as President of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers after serving in that position for ten years. Before coming to Yale, Lloyd Richards was Professor of Theater and Cinema at Hunter College after having served on the School of Fine Arts faculty of New York University and having his own acting studio. 

YALE REPEROTORY THEATRE will this year complete its sixteenth season and its third year under the artistic direction of Lloyd Richards. It has presented 127 plays, including 47 world premieres and 17 American premieres. Among professional resident theatres in America, the Rep is unique in its affiliation with the Yale School of Drama, a graduate institution offering professional training in seven disciplines of the theatre: acting, directing, design, technical design and production, dramaturgy and dramatic criticism, administration, and playwriting. Since its founding in 1966, the Yale Rep has achieved recognition for producing intelligent and adventuresome theatre.
