WHO'S WHO IN THE CAST CHARLAYNE WOODARD (playwright). Charlayne's first play, Pretty Fire, which she wrote and performed, won the Los Angeles Drama Critics' Circle Award and the N.A.A.C.P Theatre Award for best play and best playwright. Pretty Fire also enjoyed successful engagements at MTC and Seattle Rep and is published by Penguin Press. Charlayne was in the original Broadway production of Ain't Misbehavin' for which she received both Tony and Drama Desk nominations. Her Off-Broadway credits include Hang on to the Good Times (MTC) for which she received her second Drama Desk nomination. At the New York Shakespeare Festival, her credits include Grusha in The Caucasian Chalk Circle, directed by George C. Wolfe and Maria in Twelfth Night. Her regional theatre credits include the lead role in The Good Person of Setzuan adapted by Tony Kushner at the La Jolla Playhouse. On film, Charlayne co-starred in John Schlesinger's Eye for an Eye opposite Sally Field and has appeared in such films as Henry Jaglom's Baby Fever and One Good Cop opposite Michael Keaton. On television, Charlayne played the title role in "Run for the Dream: The Gail Devers Story." She's had recurring roles on "Roseanne," "Sweet Justice," and "Fresh Prince of Bel Air," and has guest starred on "Frasier." Currently, she has a recurring role on "Chicago Hope" and can be seen playing Tituba in the film of Arthur Miller's The Crucible. Charlayne is a member of The Actor's Studio and is a graduate of the Goodman School of Drama in Chicago TAZEWELL THOMPSON (Director) directed MTC's Holiday Heart, which under his direction, had additional performances at Seattle Repertory Theatre, The Cleveland Play House, and Syracuse Stage. He directed the world premiere of Charles Smith's Black Star Line, which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. Most recently, he directed the Houston Grand Opera's production of Porgy and Bess at La Scala in Milan; Cymbeline and From the Mississippi Delta at Playmakers Rep, and Ma Rose at Indiana Rep. Mr. Thompson is the former artistic director for Syracuse Stage and artistic associate/resident director at Arena Stage in Washington D.C. and the Acting Company in NYC. While at Arena Stage his productions were nominated for 25 Helen Hayes Awards, many for best director and Outstanding Productions. At Syracuse Stage, he either produced or directed over 21 productions that included the world and American premieres of Cheryl L. West's Holiday Heart, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of N. Scott Momaday's The Indolent Boys, and Canadian Playwright Vittorio Rossi's The Last Adam. Mr. Thompson's regional directing credits include Old Globe Theatre, Northright Theatre, Huntington Theatre, Actors Theatre of Louisville, Goodspeed Opera House, Virginia Stage, and Marin Theatre Company. In NYC, he has also directed at the NYSF, Roundabout Theatre, Soho Rep, CSC, New Federal Theatre, Perry Street Theatre, and Musical Theatre Works.
