together many times; most recent when they co-starred in a three character play in Rome, Italy. Alan has appeared on all the popular television shows-East Side/West Side, The Nurses, U.S. Steel Hour, Dupont Show of the Week and Naked City are a few that come to mind.

Bill Manhoff, Playwright, was born in Newark, New Jersey, and attended Jamaica High School where he wrote short stories for the school magazine. He entered C.C.N.Y. for a Bachelor of Arts course, planning to study law, but found writing much more rewarding than studying. At twenty, in his senior year, he sold a radio script. He took this as a sign from heaven and left school to answer radio's crying need for his services. "It turned out Heaven was putting me on," he remarked to an interviewer. "For four years I worked as a truckloader, bellhop, paint sprayer in a compact factory, liquor clerk and finally drifted into publicity writing gags for columns. This brought me to the attention of Henry Youngman and other comedians who can smell a gag upwind at twenty miles." Mr. Manhoff became a gag writer for Youngman, Jan Murray and Milton Berle. Ed Gardner and Abe Burrows hired him for their radio show, Duffy's Tavern, and took him to Hollywood, where he stayed for twenty years writing and producing in radio and television for shows such as Danny Thomas, The Real McCoy, Pete and Gladys and many others. For the past several years he has created and produced pilots for Margaret O'Brien, Keenan Wynn and Dan Dailey among many others. In Hollywood he did several plays with local theatre groups. The Owl and the Pussycat is his first Broadway play. "I am married to the former Joy Reynolds," he added, "who is Executive Secretary for the Free Southern Theatre. We have two dogs and three

cats in California and three cats in New York. No owls."

Authur Storch, Director - Mr. Storch, a former actor, has been a member of the Actors Studio for the past twelve years and a charter member of the Director's Unit at the Actors Studio since its inception four years ago. Following a continuing flow of acting assignments on the stage in television and the motion pictures, Mr. Storch made his directing debut off-Broadway with the much-applauded Two By Saroyan. He repeated this in London's West End with even greater success. Since then, Mr. Storch has directed many plays and musicals in theatres around the country. More recently, he was acclaimed for his direction of Murray Schisgal's award-winning The Typists an The Tiger.

Jo Mielziner, Scenery and Lighting, for more than forty years has brought beauty and distinction to the American theatre. The list of his invaluable contributions to plays, musicals, operas and ballets is almost too long to contemplate. Mr. Mielziner's first Broadway production, The Guardsman, established a standard for scenic excellence which he has maintained ever since. He has received Donaldson Awards for Dream Girl, A Streetcar Named Desire, Death of a Salesman, The Innocents and The King and I, and was elected the best scenic designer of the year in the Variety Poll for those five plays as well as for Carousel, Annie Get Your Gun, Another Part of the Forest, Summer and Smoke and Flight Into Europe. He received Tonys for A Streetcar Named Desire, The Innocents and Death of a Salesman and a special Antoinette Perry Award for distinguished contribution to the theatre in 1952. Born in Paris, he is the son of Leo Mielziner, the distin-
