A new line of thought. A new line of cars.
The 1991 Ford Escort. Big thinking in a new small car. The 1991 Escort Sedan, Wagon and GT evolved from a new line of thinking. A new approach to creating a full line of small cars at Ford. By bringing together and refining some of the best ideas the world had to offer in terms of technology, design, engineering and manufacturing, we made a line of cars that will make a difference.

Buckle up--together we can save lives.

It's designed for performance. From its front fog lamps to rear spoiler, Escort GTs aggressive profile makes it clear that it was born to run. Its specially designed interior quickly telegraphs the same message. Performance features include easy-to-read analog instrumentation that lets you process essential information at a glance. Firm sport seats. A special grip steering wheel. And a precise five-speed that's smooth on the shift with short throws for quick response.
And, because the Escort was designed to adhere to the road, its15x5.5 cast aluminum wheels are wrapped in Goodyear Eagle GT+4 performance rubber.

It's engineered for performance. This new Escort GT is all GT. The hardware beneath the skin is almost as beautiful as the skin itself, and in some aspects, breathtaking.
For example, take its 16-valve, 1.8 liter, four-cylinder dual overhead cam engine with multiple-port electronic fuel injection. If all that doesn't take your breath away, the fact that it churns 127 horsepower, at 6500 rpm probably will.
Its exuberance is aptly controlled by a sport suspension system, power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering and 4-wheel power disc brakes. Escort GT. Performance from the word "go".

Our goal: Build a car to rival any small car in the world. This Escort was built for strength with stronger stress points for increased structural support. Even the paint is tough, thanks to state-of the art finishing and painting processes that provide a more chip-resistant finish.
The final result? A new car with the level of fit and finish, the quality and the performance that set a new pace for the small GT.
The Next Escort GT.
