Rubbing Elbows

LIZA MINNELLI CHOOSES LES PYRENEES - 251 W. 51st ST.
There's a special table at Les Pyrenees that is affectionately dubbed "Liza's Corner". And there's also a special salmon dish ("Saumon du Glere") that is on the menu thanks to her. It was created for Ms. Minnelli 18 months ago by chef Andre Ausset....Often when Liza is in town she dines at Les Pyrenees, partially because of her friendship with owner Jean Claude Pujol, but also because she enjoys the French provincial cuisine and fine service. Patrons of the restaurant (located opposite the Uris Theatre) can have their appetizer and entree, see a show, then come back after the final curtain for coffee, dessert, and a liqueur.... Les Pyrenees resembles a French auberge. The rich, red upholstery and carpeting are offset by beamed ceilings, panelled and brick walls. A winter attraction is a wood-burning fireplace.
(Les Pyrenees offers a large moderately-priced a la carte menu, a $9.00 pre-theatre dinner. Nightly specials include Contre Filet Bordelaise, Canard aux Cerises, Coquille St. Jacques Parisienne. Open for lunch, dinner, and after-theatre supper. Closed Sunday.)

DINA MERRILL CHOOSES THE MAGIC PAN - 149 E. 57th St.
"When my teenage daughter told me she had found a marvelous new restaurant, I nodded distractedly, said 'that's nice.' When she asked me later to lunch with her at The Magic Pan, I agreed - more with the intention of pleasing her than myself," said Dina Merrill. "That was two years ago (when it opened), and I've been going there ever since. They make the best crepes in town, and I also enjoy the atmosphere and the decor.... The Magic Pan's kitchen specializes in French and Hungarian dishes. The menu lists 41 varieties of crepes, plus salads and soups. Bread is not available! The management believes there's enough starch in the crepes.
(The Magic Pan consists of three rooms - Hunting Lodge, Garden Room and Living Room. Recommended is the Steak Kebab crepe - $5.95 - and Crepe Beignet for dessert. There's a bar serving "the best Bloody Mary's in town." Open after-theatre.)

Half a World is Waiting. South America.

It's the land where the American dollar goes farther and where, like the opposite of a King Midas, everything you touch seems to be half the price you'd expect to pay.
From the thick green jungles of the Amazon to the thin blue mountain air high in the Andes. From noisy Indian Markets to tranquil stretched of palm fringed beach.
You should be there. And Braniff can make it happen.
We know the hotels, the restaurants, the casinos, and the beaches. We even know when and where the marlin are running.
In short, we know South America like the back of our hand. We ought to, we've been flying there and back for a very long time.
