I could not stand her a day & Lena gets on my nerves but I pity her & tried to call her up but guess she wasnt at home no one answered. Colcord is liable to live a long time as he is. another shock may take him, its a pity to linger & wear others out, but Gregory told me in the fall his father was enjoying himself & having the best time of his life being waited upon. no one who has to wait on him enjoys it. the wife forinstance. I am glad little Doris has a little girl companion & hope she is learning table manners they set well on little children. I think Maude is suffering from her eye trouble & Ralphs is high blood pressure they said in the hospital & he needed a rest, hers is from the same cause. it is something they are worried over, so I dont like to call up & ask them about it. I pity them both terribly they worry over this depression from what Ralph said. I guess everybody does & to see how everything is going crime predominates. life is not worth living. its the young who will inherit the countrys debt as Herbert Hover [[Hoover]] said in his speech. some would like him to be the next President. but it will take a mighty smart man to get us out of this tangle. it wont be in our day. every thing seems to go to the dogs. it will seem good to have it so one can step out on bare ground once more. my milk & the baker & grocer still come to the front door they think it a shorter cut & safer going Mrs Barry & Bill have just arrived
