Graduated Hinge Seat Desk and Back Seat
The advantages claimed for this Desk have been examined and passed upon by disinterested parties, and pronounced the best Desk for all purposes ever yet invented. Simplicity of structure, unequalled strength, and noiseless hinge -unaffected by the wear of years. It can be changed at pleasure, six hights, from lower to higher grades, or vice versa. The folding seat enables the pupil to stand behind his Desk, and facilitates sweeping.

[Fig.1.]
This building will accommodate some eighty pupils, and is intended to be a box frame, shingled roof, with some two feet projection at the eaves; and should rest upon a stone or brick foundation.
It will be observed in the arrangement of the plan, that wardrobes or dressing rooms are provided upon each side of the entrance, the pupils, to pass through the same, in entering school room. Should one of these rooms be found sufficient, the other room could be occupied for the teacher's room, recitation room, or other purposes. The teacher's platform is placed a little to one side of the center, in order to leave sufficient room for stove. Flues should be placed so as to secure perfect ventilation. They can be made to reach within a foot of the floor, and pass through the ceiling over head.
Fig. 1 is prospective view of the building, which can readily be adopted to this plan by adding, as will be seen, one window upon each side; of course there will need to be additional bracing in the roof and sides. The story should not be less than fourteen feet high. The windows should have box frames, with 1 1/2 inch thick sashes, hung with weights, and outside rolling blind shutters. Estimated cost $1,200 to $1,500, including furniture.
Fig. 2 is the ground plan, 46 by 27 feet. A - Entrance and hall, 7 by 9 feet. BB - Wardrobes, 7 by 8 feet. C - Teacher's platform, 8 1/2 by 6 1/2 feet. DD - Side aisles, 3 feet wide. E - Rear aisle, 3 feet wide. FF - Middle aisles, 2 feet wide. GGG - Desks and seats, 3 1/2 feet long.
