The rim of a fine basin-like open valley in which lies the Indian (Tarasco) town of Nahuatzin, & several smaller villages.

The valley is very fertile & surrounded by more or less heavily wooded hills. Owing to the altitude, some 8000 ft., & to being surrounded by still higher peaks, the climate is cool & fall & winter frosts occur.
