I saw large fine white &  magnificent deep red roses [[strikethrough]] in yards [[/strikethrough]] growing in wild luxuriant beauty in yards in Nahuatzin & other villages & the bush on the hill had undoubtedly been planted there by the people who cultivated the field.

From this same hill came an ancient copper ax (of the same pattern as those of iron in use today) which I bought in Nahuatzin. From a native silversmith in Nahuatzin I bought several earrings of the patterns in common use among the people. The smith works with a rude bellows & charcoal fire,- a pair of scissors, tweezers, hammer & one or two other small rude
