articles of agreement between John Morris employer & the undersigned laborers of Pontotoc County - State of Mississippi this the 9 day of August 1865
Art 1st John Morris is to furnish them with houses, food, fuel, clothing, & medical attention, as heretofore for the balance of the year.
Art 2nd He is to give them in compensation for their labor until the 1st day of January 1866 the tenth of the crop

Art 4th They are to obey all orders of said John Morris and do promptly and faithfully any & all of work on the premises for the balance of the year or as long as they remain on the place

Art 5th There are not leave the place without a permit and are to report immediately all persons visiting or stragling over the place. They are not to steal or suffer any one else to steal anything whatsoever off of the said place

Art 6th If any of the undersigned refuse to or neglect to do fair and faithful work, leave the place without permission or fail to comply with the above contract he or she shall be liable to be dismissed and forfeit his or her share of the crop.   In testimony of our agreement to the within contract we affix our hand and bind ourselves the day and date above within.
