Agreement with Freedmen.
This agreement made this 30th day of August A.D. 1865 by and between Wm Henley of the county of Hinds and State of Mississippi of the first part and the person hereinafter named and undersigned Freedman of the same place party hereto of the second part.

Witnesseth, that for the purpose of gathering the crop and doing such other work as is necessary on the plantation known as the Spann place in the county aforesaid during the year commencing [[strikethrough]] of [[/strikethrough]] on the 30th day of Aug. A.D. 1865 and terminating on the first day of January 1866. The said Wm Henley party of the first part in consideration of the promises and conditions hereinafter mentioned on the part of the party of the [[strikethrough]] first [[/strikethrough]] second part agrees to furnish to said laborer and those rightfully defendant upon her, free of charge clothing and food of good quality and sufficient quantity; good and sufficient quarters; medical attendance when necessary, and kind and humane treatment.

And it is further agreed. That in case the said Wm Henley shall fail neglect or refuse to fullill any of the obligations assumed by him or shall furnish said party of the second part with insufficient food or clothing or be guilty of cruelty to her, he shall besides the legal recourse left to the party aggrieved render this contract liable to annullment by the Provost Marshall of Freedmen. And it is agred on the part of the party of the second part that she will well and faithfully perform such labor as the said Wm Henley may require of her for the time aforesaid.
