State of Mississippi}
County of Clarke} This agreement made and entered into this 4th day of October 1865 by and between S.B. Moody of the first part and Solomon Monroe, freedman, of the second part witnesseth:  That the said part of the first part, agrees to let the said Solomon have his place, known as the OFerrall place, the balance this year, and the whole of the year 1866 for cultivation, on the following terms & conditions, the same being in lieu of rent.
The Said Solomon of the second part agrees to build a house of skinned pine poles with two rooms, and each room 16 feet square with an 8 feet passage between, dig a well, repair the corn crib,  Smokehouse & Horse stable and make a good Garden with pine railings, the boards on the roof of the dwelling house and smokehouse to be nailed in, said Moody of the first part to furnish the nails, free of charge.
Said Solomon of the second part, is to repair all the fencing on the place so as to have a good two rail fence around the whole place, that is all the land suitable to cultivate
