no word for Lena I have sent a head a letter or two for her.

to day I took a sweat early by falling my scythe and cutting the grass down half way of drive as far back as the garden goes and perhaps I may cut the rest tomorrow I don't know who will take the grass around the old [[pena?at]] it may have to rot down for I shall not spend any money to make hay of it the bushes back of the house have grown more this year them common I think. I had cut a lot out last spring and perhaps that makes the them do better. We do not find any of the [[?]] as yet on the Golden Rod your ma will watch close for them till they show. those small red lice here just come the last day or so. it may be early for them.

I have looked [[sharpe?]] late 15 day and find a [[few?]], about 1/2 in long very light green. look very much as these on the grape.Vines but do not [[web?]] up the [[?s]] so much, Maude has just called up to say goodbye. someone she said was taking them in to Boston to catch their train we did not catch the name. Ma

Transcription Notes:
The word at the end of line 7 starts with a p, though at first glance it does look like Lena, but refer to the L in Lena in line 1, and the two instances of p in, for example, "perhaps" in line 5
