The hands shall be classed when employed by contract, and his or her name written in the body of this agreement, under the class to which he or she is assigned by contract, and opposite his or her name, shall be written the date in which he or she signed this agreement.

Any hand failing, in the opinion of his employer or his agent, to perform work of the quantity and quality to entitle him or her to occupy a position in the class to which he or she had been assigned, may by said employer be reduce to a lower class, and shall receive thereafter only the wages of a hand in the class to which he or she shall have been reduced; and any hand whose labor and conduct in the opinion of the employer, shall entitle him or her to be elevated to a higher class than the one to which he or she shall have been assigned, it shall be the duty of the employer or agent to elevate said hand accordingly; and he or she shall be paid thereafter, the wages of a hand in the class to which he or she shall have been elevated. Provided, that any hand deeming himself or herself wronged by the employer in being reduced in class as aforesaid, may appeal to any Justice of the Peace, or member of the Board of Police in the county, who may take all proper evidence in the case, and shall decide the same as shall seem most just and proper to him.

The following is a list of the hands employed under this contract, arranged under the class to which he or she is assigned by contract, and the date of his or her entering into the same, written opposite the name of each respectively:

Said employer agrees to furnish to each hand whilst in his employ the following amount of rations per week, to-wit: 4 lbs of bread, 10 lbs of flower [[flour]],1 pint of Molase or 12 lbs of corn meal
but where any hand does not work at least two days and a half in any one week, he or she is to be charged one dollar for his or her board for that week.

Said employer agrees to pay the following wages to-wit: To the first class men each ___ dollars per month. To the second-class men each ___ dollars per month. To the third-class men each ___ dollars per month. To the first-class women each --- dollars per month. To the second-class women each [[strikethough]] 2 [[/strikethrough]] ___ dollars per month. To the third-class women each [[strikethrough 2.00 2 2.00 [[strikethrough]] ___ dollars per month. To water-carriers and unclassified hands, the price set opposite their names respectively, in the body of this agreement.

Twenty-six full day's work, amounting to two hundred and sixty hours, and not less, is to be considered a month's work. A ticket is to be given each hand for each day's work performed by him or her, stating therein the length of time worked by such hand on that day, and each hand is to be paid according to the length of time worked by him or her.

Payments are to be made as follows: On the first day of January 1867 the employer is to pay each employee 1 pair shoes 1 dres & 25.00, the wages owing to him or her at that time, and at the end of the year he is to pay all the wages due each hand respectively.
