This agreement made this 13 day of January A.D 1866 by and between W. C. Simmons of Lauderdale County State of Mississippi of the first part, and the undersigned freedman of the county and state aforesaid of the second part.

Witnesseth.
That for the purpose of cultivating the plantation known as the Simmons plantation, in the county and state aforesaid during the year commencing on the first day of January A.D. 1866 and ending on the thirty first day of December A.D. 1866, the said W. C. Simmons, party of the first part, for and in consideration of the premises and conditions here in after maintained on the part of the parties of the second part, agrees to furnish to the said parties of the second part, free of charge, food of good quality and sufficient quantity, good and sufficient quarters, medical attendance when necessary, and kind and humane treatment.

And it is further agreed, that John Chandler, one of the parties of the second part, and his family, are to be clothed, by the said W. C. Simmons, free of charge And it is further agreed that the said parties of the second part, (except Nelly Simmons and Jack Simmons,) are to have the one fifth of all of the crop or crops, that may be produced on said plantation, by their labor, and Nelly Simmons is to have food clothing and medical attendance and Jack Simmons, is to have food clothing medical attendance and five dollars per month, all this for and in consideration of their labor

And it is further agreed, that if the said W. C. Simmons shall fail neglect or refuse to fulfill any of the obligations assumed by him, he shall besides the legal recourse, left to the party or parties aggrieved
