Agreement with Freedman
This agreement made & entered into between W. M. Boylan of the first part, and the undersigned Freedmen of the second part of the County of Yazoo, & State of Miss. Witnesseth! That for the purpose of cultivating the plantation known as the W. M. Boylan Place, in the county & State of aforesaid for the year 1866. That said parties of the second part doth hereby agree to labor faithfully on said place, commencing work at sun-rise, and working until sun-down - except saturday evenings  Said parties of the first agree to furnish parties of the second part with meal, & fifty pounds of meat free of charge.  The balance of the meat to be furnished by parties of the first part at Yazoo City prices the first day of July 1866. To be paid for by parties of the second part out of their portion of the crop, which is to be one third of the cotton made by them. If required by parties of the second part, parties of the first part will furnish parties of the second part with bagging & rope at Yazoo City prices, to be paid for by parties of the second part out of their portion of the crop. Said parties of the second part agree to obey all orders of the owner, or manager, of the place. And if any one, or more, of said parties of the second part refuses to obey any order of the owners, or manager; or to work when not sick, or the weather suitable for work; for each & every refusal to obey an order, & for every day, & part of day, they refuse to work when not sick or otherwise excused, they shall pay the sum of three dollars which shall be deducted from their portion of the crop - two dollars of which amount shall be paid to parties of the second part, and
