CONTRACT FOR HIRE.
TO BE USED WHERE THE COMPENSATION IS A PORTION OF THE CROP.

This Agreement, between C W Petrie of Hinds County, Miss., Employer, and Jas M. Cotton Laborer, Witnesseth: That said Petrie hereby hires said laborer as a Field Hand, from this date until Jany 1868 and for faithful services to be rendered in said employment, by said laborer during all that time, the said employer Agrees to Pay said laborer One Fourth of the Cotton and Corn made by said laborer during the year 1867.

Also, agrees to furnish said Laborer, Free of Charge, during the term of said service, with House Room. Said laborer. Agreeing to pay out of his part of the Crop for all supplies furnished him. And said laborer, in consideration thereof, hereby agrees to render to said employer, or his agent, for and during all of said term due obedience and faithful service, and well and promptly to perform all work in the line of his duty, in accordance with the instructions of said employer, or his agent, and to bestow due care and attention in all things, upon all property and interests committed to said laborer's charge and keeping, and will faithfully account, or pay for the same, to be deducted out of his portion of the crop, so far as the same will pay; and will discharge, in all things, the duties of a faithful servant. And it is hereby understood, and mutually agreed, that [[blank]] and during sickness the said laborer shall be charged with the actual cost of medical attendance, medicines, and other supplies furnished him.

And it is further agreed, That the said employer reserves the right to establish such rules and regulations for the government of his plantation or premises as he may deem proper, not inconsistent with this contract, and the provisions of an act of the Legislature of the State of Mississippi, entitled "An act to confer civil rights upon Freedmen, and for other purposes," approved, Nov. 25, 1865.
