Article of agreement entered into this March 2, 1867 between R.H. Farmer of the first part and Jeff Garrett & family (colored) of the second part (witnesseth).  The party of the second part binds himself & family to work on the farm for the year 1867, he and family binds themselves to cultivate what the said R.H. Farmer says is proper to put in (RJ) also to be proportion as said R.H. Farmer may direct.  The said Jeff Garrett and family binds themselves to attend to the feeding and caring of the stock not mistreat or abuse the same.  Also to commence work by sunrise, and quit at dusk (or when the said R.H. Farmer asks for them quit), and attend closely to their work, pays all damage done to farming tools and stock placed in his and family's care, and to feed and cloth himself & family.  I R.H. Farmer of the first furnish them with provisions at neighborhood prices.  Jeff Garrett & family of the second pay for same out of their portion of the crop. I, R.H. Farmer of the first part binds myself to give Jeff Garrett and family of the second part half the net proceeds what they make.  Jeff Garrett & family further binds themselves to remain with R.H. Farmer until all the crop is gathered and ready for market in good order.  Should any one of their family leave or desert (smudged) R.H.Farmer before the crop is made and (smudged) that he forfeits his interest in crop and further agrees to pay interest on all money that I, R.H. Farmer advanced.
