Dodger Theatricals'
Broadway Buzz
by Mary Denham

June is busting out all over, which means that summer has officially arrived. 'Tis the season for long leisurely lunches, slow after-work strolls, and the perfect time to start catching up on all the shows you missed during the busy winter months.

URINETOWN is "Ed" over heels for its new star. If you were one of the millions who swooned when Tom Cavanagh kissed Julie Bowen in the season finale of the NBC hit series "Ed," get ready for a whole new romance. Cavanagh has just joined the cast of Broadway's 2002 Tony Triple Crown-winner Urinetown, playing hero Bobby Strong. This isn't the TV star's first time treading the Broadway boards: Cavanagh last appeared on the Great White Way in the 1989 revival of the musical Shenandoah, and his costar was none other than Urinetown's own Caldwell B. Cladwell, John Cullum!

[[image - photograph of Pankow]] The off-Broadway comedy BARBRA's WEDDING continues its hysterical celebration, and the show's unstoppable success has a lot to do with leading man John Pankow's hilarious performance as a has-been sitcom actor. And Pankow, best known for his six-year stint on "Mad About You," seems to have inspired his famous former TV costars. Both Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser have taken the ultimate acting challenge and are appearing on the New York legitimate stage: Oscar- and Emmy-winner Hunt has received rave reviews for her performance as a flirty lawyer and mother in the comic drama Life (x) 3 on Broadway. Meanwhile her TV hubby Reiser is starring off-Broadway in Writer's Block, two new one-act comedies written and directed by film great Woody Allen. Who says you have to go to Hollywood to see big stars in the flesh?

[[image - photograph of dancing feet]] It's a brand new beat for those dancing feet. That's right, 42nd STREET has inspired world-renowned music-video creator Nigel Dick, who has just completed a brand-new commercial for the musical as it begins its third triumphant year on Broadway. The acclaimed director has helmed such landmark videos as Britney Spears' "Baby One More Time," Cher's "Believe," the Backstreet Boys' "All I Have to Give" and others by *NSync, Guns n' Roses, Ricky Martin, Celine Dion and Ozzy Osbourne. For his very first venture on Broadway, Dick has a whole new take on the quintessential musical extravaganza. Be sure to watch for his latest footwork during a commercial break near you.
