Little Rock, Ark. Oct. 17th, 1866.

Banzhaf Chas,

Sir:
I have the honor to request that monthly reports be made by Mrs. the lady having charge of Orphans at Mt. Smith. It matters not how few attend the school it should be reported just the same.
I have made an arrangement with the Ark. Miss. Assn to supply teachers to freedmen, and am decisions of having a school offered at Mt. Smith. Please report what part of the expenses can be met by the freedmen, and whether a suitable school building can be secured without delay.
Very Respectfully Yours,

Rev. J. R. Shipherd,
Chicago, Ill,

Dear Sir:
At least one good teacher is need at DeVall's Bluff - colored church for school - rom. If the teacher is earnest and a good collecton the school will more than pay expenses after a few weeks.
We and now in the midst of the cotton - picking lesson which draws some what upon the Schools. -
I do not hear from the Friends yet. Should they fail to Send the necessary force here, which I presume they will not do, can I draw upon the A.M.A. for a competent gentleman to organize and conduct a successful graded School, and possibly to take the general charge of the City School?
Very Respectfully Yours,
W M Colby,
Gen'l Supt Fr Schools Ark.
