Dear Madam:-
I have been working pretty hard for several days to straighten a very crooked matter and I hope you may be satisfied with the result. Though it is not just what I would like, it is on the whole as favorable as we could expect.
This is the agreement, in brief:
The school house being occupied rent a building for you to occupy and the trustee agrees to pay you at the rate of $80.00 a month for the rest of the term, which will be about 7 weeks if you begin next Monday.
At the annual meeting in December a trustee is to be elected and probably some months will be added to the

length of the School term; if so you must contract with the trustee and teach in the School house. If no more school is voted you must teach as you did before the state was reconstructed.
I am not satisfied, and I know you are not with $30.00 a month for your services last term, but I leave that for you to settle with Mr Sutton when you get here. I think you can make him add $20.00 a month, there making your compensation $50.00 a month, if you work half as hard as I have to get it.
I am really sorry to place you in a cold and inconvenient building but I had to yield that point in order to secure something better.
Should Mr. Sutton decline to raise your pay for last term to $50.00 a month you may as a last resort say to him that we shall have to secure it by charging the District $25.00 a month rent for the School house, for the three months that public School was kept in it. Hoping that what I have done may be satisfactory to you and that you may be pleasantly situated during your stay. I remain,
Very truly Yours,
