Dr. M. C. Boyce,

Washington D.C.

Dear Sir:

Yours of the 9th inst. is received and I thank you sincerely for the kindly intention manifested in behalf of Mrs. Stuart. I do not see that much can be done at present as we shall doubtless have to "labor and wait". I hope the passions of the colored people will subside now the holidays are over and Mrs. Stuart be employed to teach a public school where she will be entitled to protection under the school law. The situation is certainly very peculiar and delicate.
Yours very truly,
Very Respectfully
Wm M. Colby
