State of N. Carolina Nov 7 1865 Forsythe Co. Evidence given in on oath by Eliza in the case Louisa against Robt E. Withers Eliza, a colord girl, states that Minerva & Robt Withers were playing Blue Grain, & that Robt Withers remarked in fun that he would have beaten Minerva if Louisa (the plaintiff) had not of [[strikethrough]] furnished [[strikethrough]] acted the fool and furnished Minerva with corne. And Louisa remarked that she was no more of a fool than Robt Withers whereupon Robt Withers told Louisa not to repeat that remark which she did repeat. Robt Withers then took her by the arm and told her she must leave the corne pile, which she refused to do. Eliza states that she does not know whether Robt Withers was angry or not Eliza states that Isaac (colored man) ran up and took hold of Robt Withers without Withers saying anything to him.
