Stoughton January 8th 1939

Dear Folks

A very pleasant day we are having a mild spell with the ground free from snow. Mrs Barry went to church she said Mary Laython was there & told her to tell me that she was "beginning to feel old", well she might, she must be 86 years old, but they say she now looks old. Percy was there he feels his importance & thinks he is someone, so in the quire [[choir]] he bosses. it makes one smile, he is led around at home by Alice so when he gets to church he shows his spunk

That dog of Alices they call "Rowdy" & Mrs Barry says he is rightly named. he bit her New Years night so she has the mark on her arm now & he bit Mr Williams on his leg right through his pants, so he had to put on sulfernapthol to keep it from poisoning him. he is an ugly beast & not fit to be at large. they will see more trouble with him. they say he growls when strangers are there but he is dear to Alice's heart so let him go scott free. she expects to have Frank Rumreys widow there to live, who is fast losing her mind. Burt Winslow is good to them. so they are lucky to have his help. he gives the Capens $10. a week thus people think when they mention
