In addition to affording these persons the benefit of these schools having myself been almost exclusively engaged in preaching the Gospel more than 20 years & preaching a great deal during the time to the people of Color, I purpose preaching to these persons & as many others in the vicinity as may choose to attend often. As to the books suited to either school I am not informed as to whether or not there are any here but suppose there are none.
As to the character of the teacher I desire; a person of good mind, discreet & prudent who will attend strictly to the department of teaching & not interfere with the hands in any way whatever in their relations to the enterprise of agriculture is essential. An indiscreet medlesome person in such position would be a source of incalculable trouble & injury to all concerned. We are paying high rent & very high prices for supplies of every kind & the highest price for hire of anyone in this country, if I am correctly informed, & to save ourselves we must attract reasonably good labor & we wish this only; but would not tolerate a person who might be disposed to interfear with
