Mr. Williams at once provided another suitable building for school-house until the new one is completed.

The school in this place is progressing rapidly, and beyond all expectation, 52 scholars are already enrolled, and an average attendance up from 35 to 40. I have instructed the teacher to take all children that come for instruction. The Parents and Guardians of those pupils attending, or about nine tenths of them at the present time, have no means of paying tuition, and the prospect is that many of them will be no better off to pay in the fall and winter than they are now. I am now and have been paying the board of the Teacher of this school, there being an insufficient and very small amount collected for his services, he declined to remain unless enough was paid in to cover the expense of his board, this I have paid and am still responsible for, I am also responsible for payment of lumber used in the building for this school. I have made these expenditures not knowing whether they can or can not be collected or from whom to look for payment. You will please advise me in regard to this, were my means sufficient I should not at all regret the continued expenditure, but I hope that there will be a fund for such contingencies.
