many of them I do not charge at all, as they really cannot afford to pay anything. I do not get a cent till the end of the year, when the Freedmen are payed off, as full pay for my work since May, up to December. I shall get this year about one hundred dollars, at the very outside one hundred & twenty out of which I have to pay for candles to light my night school, at the rate of C50 per lb. There is my case just as it stands, & as I am very much interested in the work, I should like to keep it on next year, but do not think under those circumstances, I could do it with justice to my self, as it would only bring me into debt. I shall feel very much obliged if you will let me know what can be done under the circumstances.

Believe me.
Yours very obediently.
