Sir,
A freedmen's school will be commenced in this place on the 1st day of Feby. The amount subscribed is hardly sufficient to maintain the old gentleman who is going to be their teacher. The old gentleman I think is fully competent to be their teacher.  He is from Indiana, Here for the benefit of the waters and without money and withal. I think a worthy old gentleman; I have interested myself during the few days I have been here in assisting to get the school in operation, and in consideration that a school is very much needed here, and
