Marian Ark April 30 1868

Hon W Colby
Superintendent Education
Little Rock Arkansas

Dear Sir

I have the honor to forward school reports for the month of April 1868

The school interest in this district remains about the same; there is and has been for some months past a very earnest desire on the part of the colored people to at least learn to read and write and but for their extreme poverty schools would be much better attended

There are a number of people who have only attended Sabbath schools four or five months and learned the letters of the alphabet in school and are now reading

We have a deed for a lot in this place for creating a schoolhouse and about $150,000 or Subscribed toward building
