Your letter of Sept 29th would have been promptly acknowledged, but that I have for some time confined to my room by a severe attack of Rheumatism. There is an improvement in public feeling here, and they are laying hold with increased earnestship in organizing districts [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] making arangements for shools, & building school houses  A Mrs. Clark from [[strikethrough]] [[??]] [[/strikethrough]] Wisconsin sent here by a Society of Congregationalist, has just commenced to teach in the Colord Free School of this district
