New Hartford, Conn., July 9th, 1869. Mr. Wm. Colby, Having observed your appointment or re-appointment to the office of Superintendent in Arkansas, and having had some little acquaintance with you, I resolve to trouble you for information, if you will so oblige. Our Association the "Penn. Br. of A. F. Union Com." has now closed its work in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Unless I withdraw from this Society I expect an appointment to some other section of the south; these appointments are not made until September, and schools not opened until considerable later; should I abandon the work now at the south I should not feel satisfied,
